On building software at the coast
Notes on running a small software practice from a quiet town.
We started this branch of the studio because the work was quietly piling up. Brand and identity had always paid the bills — but more and more clients were asking for the next layer down. The dashboard. The portal. The platform that the brand sat on top of. So we built one.
The instinct in software is always to scale up. More engineers, more meetings, more process. We're going the other way. Smaller engagements. Fewer people. More writing. The kind of practice that can sit at a kitchen table and still ship.
